US Infantry Company

Following the U.S. entry into World War II, the U.S. Army issued new Tables of Organization and Equipment (TO&Es) for infantry rifle companies in April 1942, with minor changes in 1943 and 1944. The Rifle Company structure included 1 Company Headquarters, 3 Rifle Platoons, and 1 Weapons Platoon, totaling 6 Officers and 192 Enlisted personnel.

Company Headquarters: Command and support section with a Company Commander (Captain or Lieutenant), Executive Officer (Lieutenant), logistics/maintenance personnel, a Bugler, an Orderly, a mess section, and 4 Messengers. Key personnel were armed with M1 Carbines or M1 Rifles.

Rifle Platoons: Each consisted of a Platoon Headquarters and 3 Rifle Squads. Led by a Platoon Commander (Lieutenant), assisted by a Platoon Sergeant (Staff Sergeant) and a Platoon Guide (Sergeant). Included 2 Messengers and 5 Basic Duty soldiers. Platoon HQ personnel were armed with M1 Carbines or M1 Rifles.

Rifle Squads: Each had 12 enlisted personnel led by a Sergeant (Squad Leader) and a Corporal, both armed with M1 Rifles. Included a Rifle Grenadier for anti-tank defense, armed with M1903 or M1903A3 Springfield rifles, and a BAR Team (BAR Man, Assistant BAR Man, Ammo Bearer) with M1918A2 BARs and M1 Garands.

Fire and maneuver at the squad level were theoretically possible but rarely practiced except on smaller patrols

The Weapons Platoon was composed of a Platoon Headquarters, a Mortar Section, and a Machine Gun Section. 

Mortar Section: Consisted of a Section Headquarters and 3 Mortar Squads, each serving a 60mm mortar. The section was led by a Sergeant and included a Squad Leader (Corporal), Gunner, Assistant Gunner, and 2 Ammo Bearers. Gunners and Assistant Gunners were armed with pistols.

Machine Gun Section: Included 2 Medium Machine Gun Squads, each serving an M1919A4. The Section Headquarters had 1 Basic Duty soldier, and the structure was similar to the Mortar Section but focused on Machine Guns
